Telling the Story of Home – Using Property Records in Genealogy with Velaine Nagy
December 12, 2024 at 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm EST
Our homes provide necessary shelter. Yet where we live often shapes our lives – our history. Property records include a vast collection of documents that may reveal details about our relatives. Including houses and property in our genealogical research may provide gems of information, historical connections and provide insight to our stories. House and property records may open up connections, give information and help to tell a story of the lives lived there.
This presentation will introduce the basics of interpreting county maps, property records and deed registration. Velaine will share techniques to search property records – moving from house history to “the genealogy of a house.”
Property records may contain research treasures such as wills, lawsuits, divorce information and business records.
The presentation will share resources, locations and tips for investigating this enduring character of our families’ history – the house and property.
